Drake is being sued for bailing on two Chicago concerts — allegedly because he wanted to be paid more than the previously agreed amount — and failing to return hundreds of thousands of dollars he’d been paid for the gigs.
The promoters, Status Entertainment, claim the rapper canceled a March 2012 show, during what’s described in the lawsuit as his “meteoric rise to the top of the music charts, achieving worldwide fame and fortune” that upped his asking price.
Status alleges that Drake had agreed to perform for $250,000, and that the promoters had already transferred him $100,000 when he abruptly pulled out of the concert and failed to return the funds.
When another promoter set up a June 2012 concert in Chicago at a larger venue, Drake’s camp and Status reportedly tried to work again together, allegedly agreeing to an October 2012 arena show.
Status says that it once again sent approximately $100,000 to Drake, but that the rapper was again non-responsive, and that his team “changed the price because our value went up.”
They are now suing Drake for breach of contract and unjust enrichment fraud, among other allegations.
Status is demanding $202,800 plus interest and court fees.
