Benedict Cumberbatch is married! The Oscar nominee and theater director Sophie Hunter tied the knot on the Isle of Wight on Saturday, making it a Valentine’s Day to remember.
The private ceremony took place at St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church, a 12th century structure in the town of Mottistone, with a reception at the centuries-old Mottistone Manor. It’s believed to have been a small affair, with a local report saying approximately 40 guests arrived at the church on Saturday.
Cumberbatch and Hunter have been relatively under-the-radar throughout their relationship, largely avoiding being photographed together until this year’s awards season. It’s a big month for Cumberbatch. He’s nominated for Best Actor at next week’s Academy Awards for his performance in The Imitation Game.
He’s soared to fame in recent years with his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes on “Sherlock” and appearances in hit movies like Star Trek Into Darkness and The Hobbit. Hunter also sometimes works in front of the camera, having appeared in projects like “Torchwood.”
The couple announced their engagement last November, and revealed that she’s expecting their first child last month. It is the first marriage for both Cumberbatch and Hunter, who met on the set of 2009’s Burlesque Fairytales. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
