Margaret Thatcher has died.
She was 87.
Britain’s first female prime minister suffered a stroke, her spokesman confirms.
A funeral will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral at a later date.
Thatcher served as prime minister from 1979 to 1990.
After suffering a stroke in 2002, she retired from public life.
She suffered additional strokes in the ensuing decade, and was most recently hospitalized in December.
Last year, Meryl Streep won an Oscar for her portrayal of Thatcher in The Iron Lady.
