Billie Joe Armstrong Lands First Starring Film Role

Billie Joe Armstrong is headed to the big screen in a big way. The Green Day frontman is set to star alongside Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester in an upcoming indie drama Like Sunday, Like RainDeadline reports.
The film comes from actor/director Frank Whaley (Pulp Fiction,Ray Donovan) and tells the story of a struggling musician, played by Meester, who becomes the guardian of a 12-year-old music prodigy. Armstrong will play Meester's boyfriend in the movie.

Filming for Like Sunday, Like Rain is underway in New York.
Over the years, Armstrong has appeared in minor roles in other movies including Penny Marshall's Riding in Cars With Boys and Judd Apatow's This Is 40. This December, he'll also make a cameo in Anchorman: The Legend Continues.
Aside from the new acting gig, Armstrong has two documentaries about Green Day coming up. ¡Cuatro! explores the band's writing and recording process while creating 2012's ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡TrĂ©! album trilogy and Broadway Idiot, due out in October, traces the adaptation of Green Day's American Idiot album into a Broadway production.
Green Day resumed touring earlier this year following Armstrong's stint in rehab for substance abuse. The band has a short Australian tour set for February 2014.
