Howard Stern’s right hand woman for the past 30 years revealed she had a cancer scare that kept her off the radio for more than a year, Extreme Entertainment has confirmed.
In May 2012, Robin Quivers found a tumor the size of a grapefruit in her bladder. Robin was told that her quality of life would diminish and that she would have to use a bag to urinate and another one for “stool” for the rest of her life. She says she got emotional when she first delivered the news to Howard. Robin told Howard on the radio Monday, “before that conversation was over, I realized how much I meant to you. I started to consider living in ways I never thought I would because you loved me so much.”
“I gotta be honest,” Howard admitted. “I thought she was a goner.”
“Doing a show without Robin is like cutting off my left arm,” he said in May 2012, “Or my right arm. Or maybe both.”
“She was my backbone, you understand. Where I would lose courage, Robin always had the courage. She always is the brave one. Always the brave one with me. I could go to her, and I could always rely on her.”
Then the miracles started happening. Robin met two doctors, Dr. Carol Aghajanian at Memorial Sloan Kettering and Dr. David Agus from USC Keck School of Medicine who were on a mission for a cure.
Robin underwent a 12 hour surgery to remove the mass that had grown out of uterine tissue and the process of recovery began. The 61-year-old underwent chemotherapy and handled the treatment so well that Howard joked, “The woman loves chemo!”
On Monday, Robin announced that she’s received a clean bill of health and she is cancer free!
