One Direction Tells Billboard What They Love About America and Their Fans, Say There Are No Plans to Split Up

The boys of One Direction open up about Midnight Memories, their future plans, what they love about America, and getting booed at the MTV Video Music Awards in a new cover interview with Billboard.
Asked about a rigorous touring and recording schedule that keeps them on the road, Harry Styles says, “I don’t think it’s that hard to stay focused. We get to go to amazing places and work with great people, it’s just really fun!”
“Luckily, I have my four best mates on the road with me to keep me from getting lonely,” explains Niall Horan. “Of course we all miss home at times. Who wouldn’t, being on the road all year long? Wouldn’t give it up for anything though.”
The five members remain dedicated to the band and have renewed their record label deal for another three albums — the first of which could be released as soon as next November.
“We just love what we’re doing right now. We’ve got no intention to change that,” Liam Payne tells the magazine.
Louis Tomlinson adds, “Who knew we would be here three years ago? We’re just going to focus on tomorrow and go from there.”
“Eventually they probably will split and up and maybe want to have their own careers,” explains their label chief Simon Cowell. “The choice is theirs, and we’ve got the opportunity to do both. But from what I hear, they’re really enjoying what they’re doing and we don’t feel there’s anything seriously wrong here.”
He says, “They’re getting more time off and I hope they stay a band for a long time.”
The band is asked about being booed while accepted their VMA award for Song of the Summer, and whether they have something to prove with Midnight Memories.
“The award was fan-voted so we owe all the thanks to the fans,” replies Styles. “We always have something to prove and hope that the music will speak for itself.”
Asked what they love most (and least) about their adoring fans, Horan replies, “Simple question. There’s nothing to not like, our fans are THE best fans in the world.”
And what do they enjoy most about the United States, where One Direction has spent more and more time?
“The sun. It’s always sunny in America!” says Horan.
Zayn Malik likes “the food.”
Payne answers, “The waves — love the surf they have.”
“Same, love to surf whenever we have some downtime,” agrees Tomlinson.
Styles responds, “Each city has something different to offer, I really loved Memphis.”
