Group Slams Maroon 5 “Animals” Video: It Glorifies Stalking — What Do You Think?

The “Animals” video – which shows Adam Levineplaying a butcher who becomes obsessed with a woman (portrayed by his real-life wife Behati Prinsloo), creepily following her around and sneaking into her bed, fantasizing about blood-soaked sex – has now been condemned by a leading sexual assault support group.

The Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN) slams “Animals” for turning stalking into something that seems romantic and entertaining.

In a statement, the group’s vice president of communications Katherine Hull Flifletexplains, “Maroon 5′s video for ‘Animals’ is a dangerous depiction of a stalker’s fantasy — and no one should ever confuse the criminal act of stalking with romance.”

“The trivialization of these serious crimes, like stalking, should have no place in the entertainment industry,” she adds.

Some fans have also expressed discomfort with the video’s themes, as well as the song’s lyrics, which include lines like, “Baby, I’m preying on you tonight / Hunt you down eat you alive. Maybe you think that you can hide / I can smell your scent from miles / Just like animals.”
