Dakota Johnson On Charlie Hunnam Quitting Fifty Shades Of Grey Before It Made $250 Million: “Whoops!” (VIDEO)

Dakota Johnson took a lighthearted dig at one-time Fifty Shades of Grey co-star Charlie Hunnam on Tuesday’s “Late Show.” Watch below!
As is well-known, Hunnam was originally cast opposite Johnson in the movie as Christian Grey, before dropping out and blaming scheduling issues. The highly-anticipated film was finally released last weekend with Jamie Dornan joining Johnson in the lead roles, and it had a record-breaking international opening that brought in than $265 million worldwide.
Reflecting on Hunnam’s unexpected exit, Johnson told host David Letterman, “That was a confusing moment. I think it was [that] his schedule conflicted… He was busy.” Letterman then pointed out that a movie that earns “a quarter of a billion dollars” in its first weekend is something worth making time for, prompting Johnson to quip, “I don’t think he knew that was gonna happen. Whoops!”
As far as she’s concerned, though, “It turned out okay,” which may be the understatement of the year. While the Fifty Shades sequels have not yet been officially greenlit, they are all but a given, and Letterman wondered about Hunnam returning to the role now that the first movie was a huge success. The host cracked, “I bet his schedule opened right up!”
Johnson and Letterman also had an amusing chat about his fondness for her mother, Melanie Griffith, and the time she brought him handcuffs. It led the actress to jokingly ask, “So, are you my dad?” Johnson’s actual father, of course, is Don Johnson. Check out the videos below!
