Jimmy Kimmel tackled the topic of whether or not to vaccinate children in a comedy bit on Monday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” The talk show host couldn’t be more clear that he absolutely thinks all children should get vaccinated, and that there’s no health risk to it. Kimmel said this “shouldn’t be a topic at all anymore.” After getting a tremendous backlash for a pro-vaxx stance PSA he aired last week, Kimmel sent out two anti-vaccine crusaders to push their agenda of a “child’s right to choose” whether they should or shouldn’t get vaccinated. Check out the video below!
Kimmel began the segment by saying, ” Last week on the show, I spoke about something that I’d been thinking about a lot lately, which is childhood vaccinations.” He added, “My daughter is almost eight months old. She got her booster shots today, and so, I’ve become more aware of the fact that some parents don’t believe in vaccinating their kids, which is something that the overwhelming majority of the medical community recommends.” Kimmel noted that last week he “got a group of real doctors together to do a public service announcement urging parents to vaccinate, and wow, did this make some people mad.”
He then read a slew of angry tweets from people who told him he was wrong and called him all sorts of name likes a “f*cking douchebag” and equated him to “Bill Cosby drugging girls.” One tweeter said Kimmel knew “as much about vaccine science as an ant knows about spaceship navigation,” while another commenter wrote, “You’re an idiot, there is just as many doctors that are against vaccines.” Others simply said he was “controlled” by big corporations.
“Some of these people are demanding that I apologize, which I will not do,” Kimmel resolutely continued. “Some of are saying I’m attacking families with autism, which is nonsense, because I am in a family with autism.” Kimmel revealed, “A lot of these groups are insisting that I present ‘both sides,’ and I’m not going to do that either for the same reason I wouldn’t present both sides if a group of people decided that pancakes make you gay. They don’t!”
But Kimmel wasn’t done. He went on, “If you really believe that 99 percent of the doctors in this country are dishonest, then you need to see a doctor, ironically. So, as far as I’m concerned, this is a hot button topic that shouldn’t be a topic at all anymore.”
Still, said the talk show host, “In the interest of fairness, we sent our community activist team Jack and Becky out to the street. Jack and Becky have been in the middle of a number of controversial issues. For instance, they went to the World Series to ask parents to sign a petition to remove the word ‘peanuts’ from ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ because their son is allergic to peanuts. That sort of thing. They care a lot.”
Kimmel then introduced the video with anti-vaccination crusaders Jack and Becky telling parents on the street that it’s a “child’s right to choose” to get vaccinated or not. They even showed moms and dads a video of their “scientific” study in which kids were shown a giant needle and asked if they would choose to get vaccination. The kids were also presented with the choice of either getting injected with a syringe or given a lollipop. Jack and Beck noted in their study that “100 percent” of kids would choose a lollipop. Check out the video below of the anti-vaxxers trying to convince people to sign their petition, and tell us what you think.
