Stephen Colbert is not worried the “Late Show” will be canceled, despite a report falsely alleging he’s in a “tailspin.” Extreme Entertainment can exclusively debunk the claim.
According to Wednesday’s new issue of Star, “poor ratings, lame gags and flat jokes have left the star frazzled and fearful that the ‘The Late Show’ is about to get canceled.” A so-called “friend” is quoted as saying, “He’s trying to keep his chin up, but this job is so much more stressful than he imagined.”
The magazine goes on to say, “Even CBS’ plan to hire new writers probably won’t give the show much of a boost if Colbert doesn’t embrace pop culture.” Explains the alleged pal, “People watch Jimmy Fallon and James Corden because they genuinely enjoy their celeb guests. But Colbert doesn’t care about celebrities, and viewers can tell. It makes interviews hard to watch; he just comes across as aloof and uninterested.”
It’s worth noting that Star is the same publication that falsely claimed nearly a year ago that Fallon was in danger of being fired from “The Tonight Show.” All this time later, the tabloid’s late-night sources haven’t gotten any more on-point. CBS is nowhere close to axing the “Late Show,” one of the network’s signature brands.
And while there’s no disputing that Colbert’s version of the program still has some kinks to work out, the host himself isn’t on the chopping block quite yet either. The former “Colbert Report” host only took over less than a year ago, and the network intends to give him more time to find his own groove. So, as rep for the TV personality himself exclusively tells Extreme Entertainment, it’s “completely false” that he’s worried about getting canceled.
