It’s only been one day since it was announced Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are divorcing. But in that time, an inordinate amount of misinformation has been spread about their split. Extreme Entertainment, however, can separate fact from fiction on the breakup.
FICTION: Angelina Jolie caught Brad Pitt saying Gwyneth Paltrow’s name in his sleep, according to the National Enquirer.
FACT: This silly story from the supermarket tabloid last week alleged that Pitt sleepily called Jolie by his ex’s name, telling her, “Gwyn, let me sleep a few more minutes.” Jolie was supposedly left in a “fury” by the slip-up. But was told no Extreme Entertainment such incident ever happened. And the ridiculous claim certainly doesn’t have anything to do with Jolie’s decision to file for divorce.

FICTION: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were fighting over her health issues and his work with Marion Cotillard, according to In Touch.
FACT: Last week’s cover story was all about the couple getting divorced. And yet the details of the article were completely wrong. Pitt and Jolie split over differing parenting styles, as well as her concerns about his alleged use of alcohol and weed. Cotillard and Jolie’s health had nothing to do with it. The magazine was simply grasping at straws and running a similar version of the same divorce story it had published again and again for years.

FICTION: Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard had an affair, according to the New York Post.
FACT: The tabloid newspaper alleged Jolie hired a private investigator, who confirmed Pitt was cheating with Cotillard as they filmed their upcoming movie, Allied. “That was the final straw,” claimed the outlet. But the paper was really just picking up already debunked claims from gossip magazines. There was no infidelity involved in Pitt and Jolie’s split, and no affair with Cotillard.

FICTION: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt almost adopted a seventh child to save their marriage, according to HollywoodLife.
FACT: In the wake of the split news, the webloid regurgitated an old claim from In Touch, which had falsely alleged in July that the couple was adopting an African child. Extreme Entertainment busted the story at the time, with a rep for Pitt exclusively telling us it was absolutely untrue. Now HollywoodLife was both late and wrong in its transparent attempt to have insight into Pitt and Jolie’s breakup.

FICTION: Angelina Jolie fired a nanny for flirting with Brad Pitt, according to RadarOnline.
FACT: Like HollywoodLife, RadarOnline also dug into the trash bin. The site brought up a busted claim about Jolie allegedly giving a nanny the ax earlier this year after the babysitter supposedly expressed too much interest in Pitt. The webloid, picking up the details from its sister outlet, the National Enquirer, tried to connect the alleged incident to Jolie and Pitt’s split months later. But the nanny firing never actually happened. And, as already stated, the divorce was not sparked by a third party.

FICTION: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce was caused by Selena Gomez, according to RadarOnline.
FACT: Again, the webloid relied on a debunked story from the National Enquirer to sensationalize the couple’s split. In this case, it wrongly dragged Gomez into the situation, recycling the tabloid’s January claim that Pitt and the singer were “flirting” at the Golden Globes, angering Jolie. Now the site used that to suggest it was a factor in their marital woes. But nothing inappropriate ever happened between Pitt and Gomez, and she is not legitimately connected to the divorce in any way.

FICTION: Brad Pitt was receiving support and advice from George Clooney, according to HollywoodLife.
FACT: This purported “exclusive” alleged Pitt was “leaning on” his famous pal, who was supposedly encouraging him to work things out with Jolie. But HollywoodLies seemingly made the whole thing up. Clooney didn’t know about the divorce until a CNN reporter broke the news to him late Tuesday. Would be pretty hard for Pitt to be “leaning on” Clooney if he didn’t know about the split until a media outlet told him.

Extreme Entertainment expects more rumors to spread about Jolie and Pitt in the weeks to come, and we’ll remain focused on revealing what’s real and what’s not. Outlets are desperate to capitalize on the Brangelina breakup and exploit the divorce. But if it’s bad dish, we’ll bust it.
