The Avengers Blasts Box Office, Poised for Biggest Opening in Movie History

It’s going to be a MASSIVE weekend for The Avengers.
The long-awaited, hugely hyped and critically praised superhero extravaganza is projected to hit as high as $170-$175 million in its debut, obliterating the competition and giving it the best opening in movie history.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2($169M) is the current all-time record-holder, but The Avengers could top it, along with The Dark Knight ($158M) and The Hunger Games ($152M).
Numbers for The Avengers will shift over the course of the weekend, and Gossip Cop will have updates.
Meanwhile, Think Like A Man should fall to #2 with $8 million, ahead of The Hunger Games, still potent enough for $6.5 million and third place in its seventh week of release.
A trio of holdovers — Pirates! Band of MisfitsThe Five-Year Engagement and The Lucky One — are all on track for $5.5 to $6 million.
The Raven ($2.8 million) should edge out Safe (2.6 million) for seventh place, withChimpanzee ($2.2 million) and The Three Stooges ($1.8 million) rounding out the Top 10.
What are you seeing this weekend?
