With only 72 days left until the Summer 2012 Olympics in London, Vogue is getting in the spirit! Sexy swimmer Ryan Lochte locked arms with soccer goalie Hope Solo and tennis superstar Serena Williams are photographed by Annie Leibovitz for the June cover.
The athletic trio is obviously stunning enough to be on the cover of a mag, so why is this such a shocking main feature? This is the very first time Vogue has put a male on the cover without a fashion model or actress on his arm. Not to mention, it’s only the fourth time in history that Vogue has displayed a man on the front page!
We’re dying to know how stoked Lochte is to be in the ranks of Richard Gere, LeBron James, and the almighty George Clooney. With those abs and sparkling eyes, he definitely deserves the recognition. Though Lochte, Solo, and Williams are surely model-esque, Vogue opted to stray from shooting them in the magazine’s stereotypical high fashion approach.
Rather, the shoot highlights health promotion and admires the Olympians’ dedication to athleticism and physique. What are your thoughts on Vogue’s cover change up?
