According to HollywoodLife, Robert Pattinson’s career is in serious danger.
The webloid, which has been parroting bizarre theories about how “jealous” Pattinson supposedly is of Kristen Stewart, now uses a Daily Mail report to claim that “Hollywood insiders are beginning to lose faith in Rob’s ability to carry a huge movie.”
“They’re even calling him ‘RIP-Patz’!” shrieks HollywoodLife.
Um, let’s back up for a second.
It is true that Pattinson has not had box office mega-hits on the scale of the Twilight franchise outside of those four (soon to be five) movies.
But it is also true that Pattinson hasn’t really released many non-Twilightfilms to date.
HollywoodLife mentions neither Remember Me ($56 million worldwide) nor Water for Elephants ($117 million) in its article, which is odd, since those two films are the only twoPattinson movies to get a wide U.S. release since Twilight hit.
Instead, the site relies on a Daily Mail piece based on — no joke — one reporter’s anecdotal experience at a poorly attended Bel Ami screening in New York and the small UK box office for Cosmopolis.
Bel Ami was put on just 15 screens this month in America; Cosmopolis has not been released.
Gossip Cop has no stake in the commercial fortunes of any actor, be it Pattinson or anyone else.
But at least when we write about box office, we employ basic facts and perspective, both of which are beyond HollywoodLife.
The site seems unable to distinguish between the expectations for a massively distributed sequel and a limited release independent movie, but, again, this is an outlet so clueless about Pattinson’s professional life, it falsely claims he and Stewart are contractually forbidden to appear together in public.
And that’s why HollywoodLife’s credibility is “in peril.”
