Ray Manzarek, a founding member of The Doors, has died.
He was 74.
Manzarek had battled bile duct cancer.
He was surrounded by family when he passed away on Monday at a clinic in Germany, according to an official statement.
Led by Jim Morrison, The Doors became one of the most popular rock bands of the 1960s, with hits including “Light My Fire” and “The End.”
Manzarek played keyboards for the group, whose psychedelic sound became emblematic of the era.
The Doors guitarist and longtime collaborator Robby Krieger released a statement saying, “I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek today. I’m just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him.”
