The “Game of Thrones” Season 3 finale is reportedly on its way to becoming the most illegally downloaded TV episode in history.
TorrentFreak reports that with more than 170,000 BitTorrent users simultaneously sharing the episode after it aired Sunday night on HBO – and with well over one million downloads in under 24 hours — the latest “Game of Thrones” has beaten previous television piracy records.
“Game of Thrones” ranked as the most-downloaded TV show of 2012, with its second season finale reaching 4.28 million downloads.
It’s expected that Sunday’s episode will outstrip that total in the coming weeks.
With 13.6 million (legal) viewers per week, HBO’s fantasy drama series has become the cable network’s highest-rated original series since “The Sopranos.”
