His sixth studio album was originally scheduled to debut in July. In August, he took fans by surprise when tweeting that "X" may be his last album: "Don't worry mainstream America. After this X album, it'll probably be my last album."
As with his first "X" single, "Fine China," Chris Brown is steering away from EDM soundscapes and focusing on R&B and soul on "X." "I wanted to touch musically on Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Sam Cooke," Brown told Billboard, "and incorporate those influences with the new."
His latest single, featuring Nicki Minaj, "Love More," continues to reign in the top 10 of the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
"X" finds Brown collaborating with Timbaland, Danja, Diplo BAM, Drumma Boy, CP Dubb, Mel and Mus, Verse Simmonds and Camper.
