Good Morning America correspondent Amy Robach underwent her first ever mammogram live on air at the start of October to highlight the importance of early detection for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Little did she know that would help save her life.
The 40-year-old journalist revealed on Monday’s GMA that the test detected that she had early stage breast cancer. She’ll undergo a double mastectomy on Thursday.
Robach wrote on her ABC News blog :
“I am mentally and physically as prepared as anyone can be in this situation. And while everyone who gets cancer is clearly unlucky, I got lucky by catching it early, and there are so many people to thank for making sure I did. Every producer, every person who urged me to do this, changed my trajectory. The doctors told me bluntly: “That mammogram just saved your life”.
