Did Andrew Garfield Really Back Out Of Presentation With Batkid at Oscars?

Andrew Garfield was due to present with “Batkid” Miles Scott at Sunday’s Oscars, but their segment was cut and the actor was a no-show at the ceremony.

Scott, the 5-year-old leukemia patient who fulfilled his dream of fighting crime in San Francisco, was set to be made an official superhero by The Amazing Spider-Man star at the Academy Awards.

A rep for the Academy says the segment was cut due to production concerns.

The spokesperson says, “Due to the nature of a live show, hard decisions sometimes must be made which require the Academy to cut segments due to the logistics of production.”

“Andrew Garfield understood that his segment had to be omitted, and he drove to Disneyland on Monday to spend time with 5-year-old Miles Scott (Batkid) and his family,” adds the rep.

But the New York Post reports that Garfield nixed the presentation because he didn’t like his lines.
The paper claims the actor rewrote his lines, but the Academy didn’t feel they were appropriate, and Garfield “had a tantrum” and “stormed off.”

Chris Evans ended up presenting in lieu of the Spider-Man star.
