Robert Duvall, who was in the front row at the Oscars, was the only one who was clapping for Neil Patrick Harris’ spectacular opening number.
The veteran actor appeared grumpy as it was evident that Octavia Spencer and Eddie Redmayne were enjoying the musical number. He sat there with his hands on his lap and a smirk on his face.
Robert Duvall Grumpy After Neil Patrick Harris Opening Number
A few minutes later, The Judge star lost the Oscar for “Best Supporting Actor” to J K Simmons, who won for his role as the band instructor in Whiplash.
Later NPH tried to get Duvall involved in a bit involving his Oscar predictions in a briefcase that was locked in a glass case. Earlier in the night, Neil had assigned Octavia Spencer to keep an eye on the briefcase to make sure no one tampers with it before his predictions were revealed. So, Neil asked Robert to keep on an on Octavia just in case she nodded off. Robert was emotionless on live TV — much like he was when Neil completed his rousing opening number.
The legendarily actor had a scowl on his face for most of the night, even when he posed with his wife in front of the giant Oscar outside the Dolby Theater.
The only time he smiled all night was when he posed with Reese Witherspoon at the Vanity Fair party.
They costarred in the film Four Christmases together in 2008.
Robert we think you’ve got a great smile — you should use it more often!
