Jax performed on Thursday’s “American Idol” wearing none other than the world’s most controversial black and blue dress. Watch below!
After finding out she received enough votes from last week to make it into the Top 16, the contestant took the stage at the Fillmore in Detroit for Motown Night wearing the same dress that made international headlines last week. After her performance, Ryan Seacrest asked, “Is this the dress that broke the internet?” Indeed it was, and Jax naturally asked everyone, “Is it white and gold?” Keith Urban hilariously yelled out that it was pink and red.
Unfortunately for Jax, though, Urban was the only one to really praise her performance of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” He told her, “What I love about you — and obviously America [does] because they voted for you; so glad you’re here — you just have such strong artistry. It’s so original. The grit in your voice, nobody else has got that. It’s just you. It’s your thing. I’m really, really happy you’re here, Jax.”
Harry Connick Jr. also acknowledged Jax’s “incredible voice” and “unbelievable charisma,” but chastised her for the song choice. “You have to sing songs that are going to get you through until we know who you are. That arrangement was dull and you can’t go for dull right now. You have to kill it,” he told her. Jennifer Lopez agreed. She noted that Jax is “already one of the favorites in the competition,” but in the superstar’s opinion, “that song didn’t work.”
