“Angry Birds Movie” Flies To Weekend Box Office Win

The Angry Birds Movie flew to the top of the box office to win its opening weekend.
Angry Birds, of course, is based on the popular video game of the same name. With the voices of Jason Sudeikis and Josh Gad, among many other stars, the animated kids movie is soared to a $39 million debut. And with that, the two-week chart-topping reign of Captain America: Civil War came to an end.
The Marvel movie settled for second place this time around with $33.1 million in ticket sales. Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, which has Chloe Grace Moretz joining Zac Efron and Seth Rogen, nabbed third with debut that totaled $21.8 million. Finishing in fourth was Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe’s The Nice Guys with $11.3 million. AndThe Jungle Book secured the fifth spot with $11 million.
Rounding out the Top 10 were George Clooney and Julia Roberts’s latest, Money Monster, which came in sixth and earned $7.1 million. Meanwhile, the horror film The Darkness took seventh with a box office of $2.4 million. Zootopia earned eighth place and $1.7 million, and The Huntsman: Winter’s War was in ninth with $1.2 million. Just making it into the Top 10 was Mother’s Day with a lesser haul of $1.1 million.
