Adam Levine has offered to pay for Christina Grimmie’s funeral, according to the late singer’s brother.
As Extreme Entertainment has reported, Grimmie was gunned down by a man named Kevin James Loibl as she signed autographs following an Orlando concert on Friday. Her brother, Marcus, tackled Loibl, who then turned the gun on himself. Grimmie’s older sibling has been hailed as a “hero” by police for preventing possible further injuries.
And while Marcus is devastated over the loss of his little sister, he is also beyond touched by the outpouring of support in the wake of her murder. He revealed on Facebook late Sunday that some of that is coming directly from Levine, who coached Grimmie on “The Voice.” Marcus writes, “I found out this morning, that Adam Levine personally called my mother and said he will pay for the funeral and her plane flight, and I was blown away.”
Marcus also referenced the GoFundMe account set up by Grimmie’s manager, Brian Teefey, who happens to be Selena Gomez’s stepdad. He noted the funds, which have topped $100,000 in just two days, were intended to “help our family move out of our current house and to take care of the funeral.” Now Levine will apparently be pitching in as well.
The Maroon 5 frontman led Grimmie to a third-place finish on season 6 of “The Voice” in 2014. The two remained close in the years since, and in a statement released Saturday, Levine said he was “devastated and heartbroken” by Grimmie’s “tragic death.” He has not publicly spoken out since.
