Grace VanderWaal came one step closer to winning “America’s Got Talent” with “Clay” on Tuesday. Watch below!
As Extreme Entertainment has reported, VanderWaal has been the season 11 front runner since her audition aired in June. The young singer-songwriter stunned by performing an original track called “I Don’t Know My Name,” prompting Howie Mandel to make her his Golden Buzzer pick. Simon Cowell even predicted she’d be the “next Taylor Swift.”
The Golden Buzzer advantage sent VanderWaal straight to the quarterfinals, for which she performed another self-penned song, “I’ll Hold Your Hand,” also known as “Beautiful Thing.” And for the semifinals, VanderWaal had a new original song, “Light The Sky.” The extremely positive responses to all the performance have had many thinking she’s a shoo-in to win the $1 million grand prize, but first she had to take the stage once more.
For tonight’s finals, the tween had the honor of closing the two-hour broadcast. And she did so with a new track called “Clay.” As always, the performance earned VanderWaal a standing ovation. Mandel poignantly said afterward, “Amazing Grace. How sweet the sound.”
He went on, “It’s not only a song. It speaks to you. You are amazing.” The comedian then told viewers, “You gotta vote. Grace has to win. This is my favorite moment of the night.”
Mel B told VanderWaal, “I really feel like you were in your ultimate, ultimate element tonight… You’re meant to be here.” And Heidi Klum said to her, “In a sea of jewels, I think you’re the most original diamond, or the rarest diamond, of them all. You just shine brighter.”
Cowell commented that in a “few years’ time, people are going to look back at you [and say] you did it in a real way. No gimmicks. It was just you.” The music mogul continued, “You deserve your place tonight. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but you’re going to be there at the end. I can feel it.” Check out the video below!
