Patrick Dempsey opened up about the “wonderful” experience of joining theBridget Jones franchise on Monday’s “Today” show. Watch below!
Dempsey joins Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth in Bridget Jones’s Baby, which sees the heroine unsure which man fathered her child. “I was a little nervous at first,” Dempsey said of coming on board, but he pointed out, “Enough time had gone by [since the last film] where everybody was nervous, so I think that helped me tremendously. They were very kind and supportive, and Colin and Renee were wonderful to work with.”
Still, with most viewers rooting for Bridget to be with Firth’s “Mr. Darcy,” Dempsey admitted it was a “little daunting” to play the interloper. “She has two great choices. She has two guys that really love and adore and understand her,” the actor says of Bridget. “One has tremendous history, and one is new and the unknown is in front.”
Asked if it was “fun” to do something quite different from “Grey’s Anatomy,” Dempsey answered, “Absolutely, and it was fun to work in London.” It was also particularly meaningful to bring his family, namely his daughter, to the movie’s premiere. He explained, “To see such a strong female lead in the cinema and have her watch that, the first time [be] exposed to Bridget, was a good experience for me.”
And will there be a fourth Bridget Jones film? “We’ll see how this one does,” Dempsey quipped. Check out the full video below!
