“Sully” Wins Weekend Box Office

Sully flew to box office victory this weekend. Get the details, and check out the full Top 10 list below!
Sully is based on the real-life experiences of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who in 2009 famously landed an airplane on the Hudson River after a bird strike. Amazingly, there were no casualties. Now Hanks stars as the pilot in a film directed by Clint Eastwood, and there’s already awards talk for both Hollywood icons.
And now moviegoers helped the film take flight at the box office, where it opened at number one. Sully debuted in the top spot with $35.6 million. Coming in at number two with less than half that amount was When The Bough Breaks, a new relationship thriller starring Morris Chestnut and Regina Hall. It earned a $14.9 million opening.
Dropping down to third was former two-time chart-topperDon’t Breathe, which took in $7.9 million. Suicide Squad followed in fourth with a haul of $5.7 million. Box office receipts of $3.3 million put The Wild Life in the number five spot.
$3.2 million in ticket sales had Kubo And The Two Strings landing in sixth, while Pete’s Dragon nabbed a seventh-place finish with $3 million. Rounding out the Top 10 were Bad Moms ($2.7 million), Hell Or High Water ($2.5 million), and Sausage Party ($2.3 million).
