Tom Hiddleston is NOT “expecting to win” an Emmy, despite a wholly fabricated report. Extreme Entertainment can exclusively debunk the story, which we’re told was entirely made up.
Unsurprisingly, it comes from HollywoodLife. In a so-called “exclusive,” a headline announces, “Tom Hiddleston Confident Of Winning An Emmy — Will He Thank Taylor Swift?” The accompanying story says, “Tom Hiddleston is ready for his big night! The actor is feeling very optimistic about taking home an Emmy award for ‘The Night Manager,’ but will he give Taylor Swift a shout-out in his acceptance speech?”
“He is expecting to win. He can’t wait, its like a kid waiting for Christmas morning,” a so-called “source” is quoted as saying. From there, though, the bad blog makes the story about Hiddleston’s split with Swift, alleging he’s “worried that everyone will only be interested” in discussing the breakup. The supposed snitch claims, “He knows that people are going to ask him the Taylor question throughout the night, but he is putting his focus on the night and the possibilities that could come from it.”
But here’s what’s really going on: With Hiddleston and Swift’s split still relatively fresh and the Emmy Awards this Sunday, the webloid saw fit to combine both hot topics into a single story. And by putting an original angle on it, that suggests to Google that the site is knowledgeable about these subjects and should be rewarded with search traffic.
Except HollywoodLies isn’t really all that knowledgeable at all. In fact, Extreme Entertainment has been assured that no one close to Hiddleston is speaking to the outlet, so one has to wonder where this information is coming from. Certainly not from a reliable (and maybe not even real) “source.”
Extreme Entertainment is told that the notion Hiddleston is “expecting to win” is “ridiculous” and “offensive.” Our contact rejects the implication that the actor is over-confident and cocky, and notes he’s actually nervous and excited “like everyone else.” As the Swift component, our rock-solid insider scoffs that HollywoodLies “doesn’t know what it’s talking about,” and should “just stop.” Ouch.
