While speaking with New York Magazine about his performance in the stage production of “Angels in America,” which focuses on the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s, actor Zachary Quinto revealed his feelings towards equality among homosexuals, as well as his sexuality for the first time.
“As a gay man, I look at that and say there’s a hopelessness that surrounds, but as a human being I look at it and say, ‘Why? Where is this disparity coming from?’
Though Zach has kept his private life under wraps, the Star Trek actor felt the need to address his sexual orientation, after the death of gay teen Jamey Rodemeyer last month.
“In light of Jamey’s death — it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it — is simply not enough to make a significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to equality,” addressed Zach on his blog. “Our society needs to recognize the unstoppable momentum toward unequivocal civil rights for every gay lesbian bisexual and transgender citizen of this country.”
After opening up about his personal life, both online and in-print, Zachadmitted that he was “moved” by the support from his fans, via Twitter.
“I have spent the day in awe of this outpouring support and resonance. we. are. in. this. together. NEVER FORGET! i am deeply moved.
