“The Avengers” is already receiving rave reviews from critics (though the film has yet to hit theaters) and stars Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johansson say it’s won the most impressive nod of all – the approval of their mothers.
“[My mom] loved it! She loved it,” Jeremy — who plays Hawkeye in the comic book film — told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson at “The Avengers” junket in Los Angeles on Friday. “My mom is really particular about stuff, but she just came and was like, ‘That was just so much fun!’ And it’s true. I feel the same way.”
“My mom’s the same,” Scarlett — who plays the seductive-but-deadly Black Widow in the film — added. “She doesn’t know any Marvel [characters] or whatever and she was exhilarated.”
“Exactly,” Jeremy agreed. “That’s the perfect word – exhilarated.”
With an enormous fan base and positive buzz surrounding the film, a sequel seems to be a forgone conclusion.
However, Scarlett says nothing is official just yet.
“We are not [officially signed on],” she told Shaun. “We hope that we are able to bring these characters back — all of our characters work interchangeably in each other’s movies, but nothing’s on the table yet.”
As for whether Jeremy’s Hawkeye will soon be starring in his own spinoff movie, the 41-year-old actor remained tight-lipped.
“I don’t know. I think there’s always a future for everything in the Marvel world — they like to keep their options open,” he told Shaun, as Scarlett looked on with a sly smile. “It’ll be up to fans, I suppose, and Marvel.”
“The Avengers” – also starring Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans and Samuel L. Jackson – hits theaters on May 4.
