Just a day after Comic-Con officials asked attendees to wait to queue up, a woman was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street to get in line for Thursday's "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" panel.
A woman was fatally injured Tuesday when she was struck by a car in front of the Comic-Con convention center in San Diego.
The Examiner reported that a 53-year-old Twilight fan identified as Gisella G. was hit by a vehicle while crossing the street to line up for admission into Hall H.
The San Diego Union-Tribune also reported that the incident took place at Fifth Avenue and Harbor Drive, requiring the police to shut down part of the street. According to a tweet at 11:45 a.m. PT by @RobKris13, the woman was attended to by paramedics. “If you pray pls do so now for Twi fan G! She was just hit by a car in front of the convention center! She was unconscious when taken hosp.”
Reports indicate that the woman was “bleeding profusely” from the head when she was rushed to the hospital. The 67-year-old driver remained at the scene for questioning by the police.
The victim’s twitter feed (@Mad4Hugh) is already full of condolences from fellow Twilight fans and other Comic-Con attendees. On July 9, a message from the official Comic-Con twitter (@Comic_Con) account asked fans not to line up until organizers were able to complete the setup process.
“Please do not line up for Hall H, set-up is not complete. Read the complete line-up guidelines:http://bit.ly/Na5LFZ #SDCC #twilight,” the tweet read.
Comic-Con rarely has had to deal with major injuries or incidents, though two years ago a young man stabbed another with a pen while fighting for seats in the convention center’s Hall H. A few years prior, a beam collapsed in Hall H, injuring several fans including Collider.com editor-in-chief Steve Weintraub.
