With Beyonce cheering him on, Jay-Z opened the new Barclays Center arena in his native Brooklyn on Friday.
The rapper celebrated the big night with a nearly two-hour concert featuring hits like “Empire State of Mind,” “99 Problems,” “Hard Knock Life” and “Run This Town.”

Throughout the evening, Jay-Z, who grew up in the nearby Marcy Projects and has always referenced Brooklyn as a core part of his identity, told the crowd how special the moment was for him.
“I’ve been on many stages, been all around the world,” said the superstar. “Nothing feels like tonight.”
Jay-Z is a partial owner of the NBA’s Nets, who have left New Jersey to play in Brooklyn’s new venue.
He’s slated to perform seven more shows to christen Barclays Center.
