‘The Queen Latifah Show’ Has Solid Debut

Following largely positive reviews, Sony TV‘s The Queen Latifah Show opened with a 1.7 household rating yesterday and a 0.9/5 in women 25-54. That was double the delivery for the premiere of the other new daytime syndicated talk show this fall, Bethenny, last Monday.
It was just shy of the debut of Arsenio Hall’s late-night syndication talker (1.9 HH) last Monday and trailed last fall’s premiere of Katie (2.8, 1.6), but the talker hosted by actress-singer Queen Latifah improved its time periods and built on its lead-ins by double digits, especially in the key W25-54 demo where her show was up 80% from last year’s time period and up 29% from its lead-in.

In households, the improvement was 31% from last year and 21% from the lead-in. The Queen Latifah Show opener, which featured guest John Travolta and performance by Willow Smith, daughter of the show’s executive producer Will Smith, did very well in the two top markets, improving its time periods by 60% in New York and 200% in Los Angeles.
As for the other freshmen, Bethenny (0.8 HH, 0.4 W25-54) andThe Test (0.8 HH) held steady while Arsenio dropped to a 0.9 HH rating. Steve Harvey opened his second season with a 1.4 HH rating.
