NBC Refused To Air Suicide Prevention PSA After Robin Williams Emmys Tribute

NBC refused to air a suicide prevention PSA following Robin Williams’ Emmy Awards tribute on Sunday.
The National Suicide Prevention Network requested the network broadcast its “lifeline” number followingBilly Crystal’s tribute to the late performer, but executives declined.
An NBC spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter in a statement, “Collectively we decided to celebrate the life of Robin Williams, not his death or, more to the point, the way he died.”
“The Emmys telecast is a celebration, and the ‘In Memoriam’ section of our show is an important one,” continues the response. “We believe we honored Robin in the right away. Suicide is a serious issue, but we decided not to dwell on that — or its prevention — in this particular forum.”
As Extreme Entertainment reported, Crystal’s moving tribute to Williams focused on his comedic talents and unmatched spirit.
The actor committed suicide earlier this month at age 63.
What do you think of NBC’s decision to reject the PSA?
