Reddit has banned The Fappening page, which was the hub for finding all the nude photos of celebs that leaked out last week.
In its place is now an image of yellow “Caution” tape, with the message, “this subreddit has been banned.”
The sites explains in a post titled, “Every Man Is Responsible For His Own Soul,” “While current US law does not prohibit linking to stolen materials, we deplore the theft of these images and we do not condone their widespread distribution.”
“We understand the harm that misusing our site does to the victims of this theft, and we deeply sympathize,” adds Reddit.
As Extreme Entertainment reported last week, McKayla Maroney is taking legal action against sites that posted the hacked naked photos of her — because she was under 18 at the time they were taken.
Other stars are weighing their legal options as well.
After photos of a totally naked Jennifer Lawrence hit online, the actress’ rep issued a statement that read: “The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence.”
Similarly, when nude pics of Kate Upton and her boyfriend Justin Verlander were shared on the Web, the model’s lawyer stated, “We intend to pursue anyone disseminating or duplicating these illegally obtained images to the fullest extent possible.”
As Extreme Entertainment confirmed on Monday, the FBI is investigating the leak, with a bureau spokesperson saying, “The FBI is aware of the allegations concerning computer intrusions and the unlawful release of material involving high profile individuals, and is addressing the matter.”
Reddit, however, has still not banned — as some have pointed out — such other unsavory pages, including one that features photos of dead children.
What do you think about Reddit banning The Fappening?
