Rob Ford has a rare form of cancer, it was announced on Wednesday.
The Toronto mayor, who abruptly withdrew from a race for reelectionlast week, has been diagnosed with pleomorphic liposarcoma.
Dr. Zane Cohen of Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto said that he’s “optimistic” about Ford’s treatment, but described the malignant tumor in the mayor’s abdomen as “rare,” “fairly aggressive” and “difficult.”
Ford, whose tenure has been chaotic and controversial, will receive chemotherapy in the coming days.
His brother Doug will be taking his place in the mayoral race against candidates John Tory and Olivia C
