Shayne Lamas’ stepmom is pregnant with her baby. The former “Bachelor” winner and husband Nik Richie are expecting their second child together, with her stepmother Shawna Craig serving as their surrogate. Craig is married to Lamas’ father, Lorenzo Lamas, which means his wife is carrying his grandchild. See a new family photo at right and below.
Lamas tells Closer Weekly, “Shawna’s not just my stepmother, she’s like a soul sister. She’s an angel that blessed my whole family, including my father.” The news follows the devastating miscarriage Lamas suffered just over a year ago when she had a life-threatening uterine rupture. As Extreme Entertainment reported, Lamas was put in a medically-induced coma, but seemed to be improving before Richie announced her “heart gave out” last Valentine’s Day. Thankfully, Lamas recovered, and later released a statement paying tribute to their lost son, whom the couple named Rex Jagger Lamas-Richie.
Following the medical emergency, Lamas was told she would not be able to carry kids again, leading her and Richie to seek out alternative options. As it turns out, Craig, who never had nor wanted kids of her own, works at a fertility agency, connecting couples with surrogates, and she realized she now had the opportunity to help her own family. “I’m ecstatic to be pregnant. It’s the best thing in the world,” she tells the magazine, further revealing that she’s carrying a boy and is due July 10.
Lamas acknowledges, “Somebody else carrying your baby is weird. But I lost my son, and now Shawna is carrying my son. I have just been given the biggest blessing in the whole world and I will always be grateful.” The baby boy will join Lamas and Richie’s daughter 3-year-old daughter, Press.
