Liam Payne posted a photo on Twitter in which he poked fun of One Direction bandmate Zayn Malik for abruptly quitting their On the Road Again tour last week. On Monday, the Payne posted a picture of the boy band holding a promotional photo, but used his hand to cover the face of Malik, who bailed on the Asian leg of the tour (photo below).
A few One Direction fans were apparently offended by Payne’s gesture. He later said it was simply a joke, and captioned the reposted photo, “#Makinglightofasituation Sorry for the laughs guys.” He also tweeted, “Some people can’t take a joke… Bit of banter guys chill out.”
As Extreme Entertainment previously reported, Malik returned to England, with a rep for the band saying Malik “signed off with stress” and retuned home to “recuperate.”
Shortly before Malik quit the tour, he was accused of cheating on his fiance Perrie Edwards. In an angry Twitter post, he dismissed the speculation, writing, “there’s a lot of jealous f*cks in this world.” Malik is expected to rejoin Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Naill Horan for the South African leg of their tour later this month.
