Mary J. Blige is not on cocaine, despite a baseless report. Extreme Entertainment can exclusively report that the story, which was posted on Monday by a questionable webloid, is not true.
According to MediaTakeOut, “Mary J Blige Is Back On That COCAINE Again!” How does the webloid supposedly know that? Did the site have a source or toxicology results? Of course, it didn’t. The blog simply commented on a video of Blige recently dancing somewhat wildly and claimed, “Ain’t no way to explain this MESS right here… other than COCAINE.” The site, without any actual proof of drug use, added that she’s doing a “CRACKHEAD DANCE.”
Of course, excessive use of capital letters for words like “cocaine” and “crackhead dance” doesn’t make stories true. First off, the highly spirited dance Blige did was one she’s been doing for years. But more importantly, Extreme Entertainment checked in with a rep for Blige, who says, “there is nothing” to MediaTakeOut’s allegation of drug use.
This isn’t the first time the webloid has tried to take this tact with Blige. In 2012, while sitting at a Nets game in Brooklyn with her eyes half-shut, MediaTakeOut wrongly claimed she was “passed out,” and noted, “Hopefully she ain’t BACK ON THAT STUFF again.” Like the current claim, that story also had no sources, just a visual on which the blog made up a false claim.
As Extreme Entertainment reported in 2013, Blige told Shape that she leads a cleaner life. The singer said, Whitney Houston’s death “crushed” her, and explained, “I saw someone so incredibly talented just diminish, and I refuse to go out like that.” Perhaps it’s time for the crack staff at MediaTakeOut to start doing some real reporting.
