ESPN “SportsCenter” anchor Robert Flores joked that Iggy Azalea is “trying to kill hip-hop” on Sunday, taking an unexpected shot at the performer while introducing the show’s “What Did We Learn?” segment on Sunday. Watch the video below.
Here’s what Flores said: “We learned that according to the Lakers’ Nick Young, a dolphin recently tried to kill him. So Nick, while dolphins are trying to kill you, your girlfriend is trying to kill hip-hop. Let’s call it even, ok?” Ouch.
Azalea, of course, has become a lightning rod in the hip-hop community as she’s soared to stardom. While she’s attracted millions of fans and become a mainstream success, Azalea has also created a lot of haters. Her detractors claim the white Australian is a talentless hack whose appropriation of black culture is a negative for rap.
Azealia Banks and Eminem are among the prominent artists who have said less-than-flattering things about Azalea in recent months. Last week, Wendy Williams defended the rapper, saying her haters didn’t like Azalea because she has a “black girl’s butt and [a] black boyfriend.” Now Flores has unexpectedly waded into the never-ending debate over Azalea’s skills. Watch the video below, and tell us what you think.
