Celebrity feuds heated up in May, with plenty of shade, insults and jabs thrown throughout Hollywood. Here Extreme Entertainment takes a look back at some of the famous names who were involved in star-studded face-offs over the last month.
1. Kesha vs. Dr. Luke: The singer and the producer’s legal battle continued in May, this time nearly torpedoing her performance at the Billboard Music Awards. After initially granting approval, Dr. Luke squashed the songstress’ plan to perform a tribute to Bob Dylan when his label, Kemosabe Records, believed the singer was going to use the performance as a platform to speak out against him. The appearance was only re-approved after Kesha gave “assurances” that it would be a straight-forward performance, and not a “statement” about their ongoing issues.
2. Ronan Farrow vs. Kristen Stewart, Miley Cyrus,Woody Allen And More: Farrow spoke out against his father and the stars who continue to work with the famous director, who Farrow’s sister, Dylan, has accused of sexually abusing her as a child. Farrow penned a guest guest column for The Hollywood Reporter, in which he called out numerous actors for collaborating with Allen. “It hurts my sister every time one of her heroes like Louis C.K., or a star her age, like Miley Cyrus, works with Woody Allen. Personal is exactly what it is — for my sister, and for women everywhere with allegations of sexual assault that have never been vindicated by a conviction,” he wrote in the piece, which was published just as the filmmaker’s latest movie, CafĂ© Society, opened at the Cannes Film Festival. He went on, “He’ll have his stars at his side — Kristen Stewart, Blake Lively, Steve Carell, Jesse Eisenberg.” Allen downplayed the column, and Lively even called out a French personality for making a joke about the allegations during a Cannes ceremony.
3. Azealia Banks vs. Zayn Malik: The rapper unleashed a series of hateful and homophobic tweets against the singer after she accused him of copying her “Yung Rapunzel” video. Banks’ insults included “your mother is a dirty refugee,” “you were the the token brown boy. All those white boys in 1D disrespected you and made you their PET,” and “@ZAYNMALIK IS A F*GGOT.” Malik replied with a few tweets of his own including, “No lies … I see you reaching but I don’t care.” Banks’ Twitter account was suspended two days later, and she apologized in an Instagram post.
4. Arsenio Hall vs. Sinead O’Connor: The former talk show host filed a $5 million defamation lawsuit against the singer after O’Connor claimed Hall helped supply Prince with drugs. In the wake of Prince’s death, she posted on Facebook,”Two words for the DEA investigating where prince got his drugs over the decades… Arsenio Hall (AKA Prince’s and Eddie Murphy’s b*tch). Anyone imagining prince was not a long time hard drug user is living in cloud cuckoo land.” Hall strongly denied the allegations and called O’Connor a “desperate attention-seeker” in his suit.
May also saw a dust-up between Ray J and Naomi Judd, while the Kardashians never actually responded after Rob Reiner dissed them. On the flipside, there were false feud reports made up about Tom Cruise and George Clooney, Christina Aguilera and Pink, Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler, Britney Spears and Madonna, Julia Roberts and Amal Clooney, and Demi Lovato and her BFF Nick Jonas. What real celebrity feuds will form in June? Stay tuned!
