Snoop Dogg: Boycott “Roots” Remake

Snoop Dogg is calling on fans to boycott the History Channel remake of “Roots.” Check out the video below.
On Monday night, History will begin airing a four-part retelling of the seminal slave drama, which is based on the Pulitzer-winning novel by Alex Haley. A critically-acclaimed adaptation originally aired on ABC back in 1977. But while the new miniseries has largely been championed for its refusal to let African-American history be forgotten, that’s precisely the problem for Snoop Dogg.
In a video posted to his Instagram on Monday afternoon, the rapper began, “No disrespect but I can’t watch no motherf*cking black movies where n*ggas get dogged out — 12 Years A Slave, ‘Roots,’ ‘Underground,’ I can’t watch none of that sh*t.”
“I’m sick of this sh*t. How the f*ck they gonna put ‘Roots’ on on Memorial Day? They just gonna keep beatin’ that sh*t in our heads in how they did us, huh?” Snoop went on. “I mean, I don’t understand it, man. They just wanna keep showing the abuse that we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago.”
He continued, “But guess what? We’re taking the same abuse. Think about that part. When y’all gonna make a motherf*cking series about the success that black folks was having? The only success we have is ‘Roots’ and 12 Years A Slave and sh*t like that, huh? F*ck y’all.”
“I ain’t watchin’ that sh*t,” the performer declared, going on to tell fans, “I advise you motherf*cking real n*ggas like myself, f*ck them television shows. Let’s create our own sh*t based on today, how we live and how we inspire people today. Black is what’s real. Fuck that old sh*t.”
Snoop’s message comes nearly five months after he declared “f*ck the Oscars” in an Instagram video boycotting the Academy Awards over its lack of black nominees. Watch the new video about “Roots” below.
