Serena Williams Loses French Open, Fans React To Upset Loss

Serena Williams shockingly lost at the 2016 French Open on Saturday, and now fans are reacting to the stunning loss.
Williams’ loss in the Women’s Singles Finals was to Spain’s Garbine Muguruza. The Spanish tennis player defeated the U.S. superstar in just two sets. A lot was on the line for Williams, as she was competing for a record-tying Grand Slam.
And while Williams stood to earn her 22nd Grand Slam, it was Muguruza who ended up achieving her first. She’s also Spain’s first female champion at the French Open since 1998. Needless to say, fans have a lot of thoughts on how the face-off turned out.
@VicenxuPalauet tweeted, “I congratulate Serena on fighting through pain, being the warrior and legend she is, and I give thanks to her for everything she’s done.” @Sid_soothsayer also praised, “Serena is like Ali..the no nonsense fighter.. Respects to her..always.” A devastated @FantaBender expressed, “I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaateeeeeeee seeing Serena lose :( like I feel it personally.”
‏@gymrat06 told Williams, “Serena, don’t get used to collecting runner-up trophies. That’s not a good look. Get some R&R and then get ready to kick arse on grass.” @jjvallejoa commented, “The sad part for Serena is not only missing out on 22, but missing out on tying Graf’s ridiculous mark of 4 Career Slams.” And @jesna3 said, “Serena haters to the left. Seriously. Tennis is greater because of her.”
“The difference between Serena having 3 titles before winning her first Slam and GarbiƱe having 2 is that Serena was 17. Garbine is 22,” @iAmNELLEZ_ observed. Still, @David__Costa sniped, “Poor Serena fans, who are devastated that she only has 21 slams. I’d be ok with having 5 consecutive new GS champs again, tbh.” Well, now we’ll see what happens at Wimbledon…
