Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto competed in a special one-hour edition of “Lip Sync Battle” on Thursday. Check out the videos below!
As Extreme Entertainment has reported, Spike’s breakout show has two stars going head to head in a faux-singing contest. Celebrities pick their own songs, and try to out-do their opponents with spot-on lip syncing, not to mention over-the-top performance style. After two rounds, the audience picks the winner, who receives the series’ signature championship belt.
Saldana and Quinto were chosen to face off since they co-star together in the upcomingStar Trek: Beyond, which hits theaters next month. And being friendly cast mates didn’t stop the actors from also being fierce competitors. “We are quarreling,” Saldana announced. “It’s on!”
The match officially started with Saldana taking on Twenty One Pilots’ “Stressed Out.” And she looked anything but stressed as she rocked the stage with a group of dancers. “You nailed the plight of the middle-class white boy,” color commentator Chrissy Teigen cracked afterward. Quinto hilariously offered, “Nice try.”
It was then his turn in the spotlight. Quinto went with George Michael’s “Freedom 90,” and his performance included having Cindy Crawford (yes, *that* Cindy Crawford!) naked in a bathtub, just like she was in the music video. Teigen also strutted across the stage in nothing but a towel. Host LL Cool J could only exclaim afterward, “Woah!”
In the second round, stars are encouraged to dress up and go all out. For Saldana, that meant bringing out none other than TLC for a rendition of “No Scrubs.” With the help of T-Boz and Chili, Saldana copied the look of the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes for a throwback performance. LL Cool J said afterward, “I know for a fact Left Eye is smiling right now.”
How to top that? Well, Quinto channeled Missy Elliott for her hit “Get Ur Freak On.” He wore oversized hoop earrings and red lipstick as he flawlessly spit the track’s iconic rap lyrics. It all culminated in the actor literally swinging from a chandelier. “What the hell?!” Saldana could be heard asking in shock.
In the end, though, only one star could live long and prosper as the “Lip Sync Battle” winner. And based on the crowd’s cheers, Saldana was named the victor! Watch the clips below, and check back soon for more!
