Ariana Grande Copying Taylor Swift?

Is Ariana Grande copying Taylor Swift? A report claims Grande wants to “mimic” Swift by becoming a country star. Extreme Entertainment can separate the fact from the fiction.
“Ariana Grande Undergoes Major Transformation: Singer Turns Country, Plans To Mimic Taylor Swift’s Brand?” reads a headline from Celeb Dirty Laundry, which asks “Is Ariana Grande planning a bold new career move?” According to the site, “That’s what everyone can’t help but wonder as the ‘Dangerous Woman’ revealed that she might make a possible country crossover happen in the future. In fact, Ariana might become the next Taylor Swift by tapping into a whole new genre while expanding her fan base at the same time.”
The outlet says that “while there’s no doubting that Ariana Grande is a chart topper with a string of radio hits,” she’s “yet to become a pop princess with the same caliber as Taylor Swift.” Grande’s fame and success is deemed inferior to Swift’s, leading CDL to write, “So it’s no wonder that Ariana’s next career move is a rather bold one, as she is apparently willing to crossover to the country music market.”
And what proof is there that Grande plans to copy Swift? Well, the webloid refers to an “Entertainment Tonight” interview, quoting Grande as saying, “My grandpa, he always wanted me to do something in the country world. I don’t know if that would ever happen, but if that opportunity comes along, I’d have to say, ‘Hell yeah!’ My grandpa was like, ‘You need to do a country song.’ So, [I] gotta make that happen someday.”
But potentially recording a country music track one day in no way means Grande is undergoing a “major transformation” or “plans to mimic” Swift. And no one accused Swift of copying Grande when she did the reverse, going from country to pop. Simply put, CDL just wanted to compare the two singers, and decided to portray Grande as some kind of copycat.
That’s pure fiction, though. And, by the way, Grande didn’t even make those comments to “Entertainment Tonight,” as Celeb Dirty Laundry wrongly claims. If the outlet bothered to do proper research, it would’ve known she was talking to Z100’s Elvis Duran at last weekend’s iHeartRadio Music Festival. But it’s clear the site doesn’t give a hoot about accuracy.
