The Magnificent Seven had a magnificent start at the box office this weekend. Get the details, and check out the full Top 10 movies below!
Magnificent Seven, of course, is a remake of the 1960 film of the same name, which itself is a remake of the 1954 Japanese movie Seven Samurai. Set in the 1870s and starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, and Ethan Hawke, the film became the highest-grossing opening ever for director Antoine Fuqua. It debuted with $35 million in ticket sales, just shy of the record for a Western.
That was still enough to handily beat out the weekend’s other new release, Storks. The animated family film, featuring the voices of Jennifer Aniston and Andy Samberg, among others, opened in second with $21.8 million. The two new films pushed the box office’s previous chart-topper, Sully, down to third place with $13.8 million. Ticket sales of $4.5 million put Bridget Jones’s Baby in the number four spot. And Snowden had a fifth-place finish with $4.1 million.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Blair Witch, which nabbed sixth with $3.95 million in receipts. Meanwhile, fellow thriller Don’t Breathe secured seventh with $3.8 million.Suicide Squad came in eighth with $3.1 million, while When The Bough Breaks took ninth with $2.5 million. And in the last spot on the Top 10 was Kubo And The Two Strings. It earned $1.1 million.
