NBC Lands Charlize Theron's 'Hatfields & McCoys' TV Series

The modern-day project stems from the Oscar winner's overall deal with ABC Studios and is being written by "Eagle Eye's" John Glenn.

NBC is taking on the Hatfields & McCoys.

Less than a week after news broke that Oscar winnerCharlize Theron would shop a modern-day series based on the famous feuding families, she has sold the project in an off-network move to NBC, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The project hails from ABC Studios, where Theron has an overall deal.

Theron, through her Denver and Delilah Productions banner, and producers Dawn Olmstead (Prison Break) andBeau Flynn (Journey to the Center of the Earth) are behind the project, with John Glenn(Eagle Eye) attached as a writer. Theron currently is attached only as a producer.

The news follows History's record-breaking success with its six-hour miniseries Hatfields & McCoys, which starred Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton as patriarchs of America's most famous feuding families. Theron's project predates History's program.
Theron has been an active producer, with credits including features Young Adult, Sleepwalking andMonster. She has a handful of features in development as well as a small-screen effort -- Mind Hunter, with David Fincher -- in development at HBO.
Theron can is onscreen in Snow White and the Huntsman and Prometheus, which opens Friday domestically.
For NBC, the deal follows a development season that saw several high-profile Western properties, including the network's1840s-set drama pilot Frontier, fail to make the grade.
