James Gandolfini’s mob boss character Tony Soprano was definitely one of New Jersey’s most iconic symbols. And the actor will be remembered throughout the Garden State on Monday.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has ordered all flags throughout the state be flown at half-staff on Monday in memory of the 51-year-old actor who passed away from a heart attack this past Wednesday.
The governor was both a friend and fan of the man whose long running HBO show The Sopranos brought so much attention to his state. Christie wrote on his Twitter page ”James Gandolfini’s passing is an awful shock. He was a fine actor, a Rutgers alum and a true Jersey guy. I was a huge fan of his and the character he played so authentically, Tony Soprano. I have gotten to know Jimmy & many of the other actors in the Sopranos cast & I can say that each of them are an individual NJ treasure.”
