Carrie Von Trapp — Er, Underwood — Tweets First Look at ‘Sound of Music’ Role

Last month, it was announced that country sweetheart Carrie Underwood would take on the iconic role of Maria Von Trapp in a live NBC production of the classic musical, The Sound Of Music.
For those who had a bit of trouble envisioning her in the role Julie Andrews made famous, fret no more. Underwood has tweeted a first look at herself in the costume — braids, billowing sleeves, look of bliss on her face.

Okay, so it's a little bit weird. (Feel free to comment if you disagree.) And, it's not completely true to the original — Underwood's laced-up corset-style bodice appears a little fancier than the apron-styled getup Andrews sported on the 196os promotional poster. Looks as if her costume designer decided a crisp white blouse would be a spunkier update to Andrews' old-fashioned black one, as well.
Adding to the oddness: We won't even get into the secondary fact that Underwood will be starring alongside Stephen Moyer, who's best known as a vampire on HBO's "True Blood." However, we're sure the multi-Grammy-winning Nashville superstar will do Rodgers and Hammerstein proud, at least on the vocal end of things.
NBC's live holiday production of The Sound of Music will air on December 5. Be sure to tune in and see if Underwood has unlocked the solution to solving a problem like Maria.
