Eva Longoria Given Community Service Award

Eva Longoria was given the “Community Service Award” Thursday night by Education Secretary Arne Duncan.
The ceremony took place as part the 2013 Hispanic Heritage Awards held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C.

“I want to congratulate you for your accomplishments,” Duncan said,  “but, as the secretary of education, I’m most proud of the recent completion of a master’s degree in Chicano Studies from Cal State University.
Eva said her parents taught her the crucial need for community programs when she was a child. Her parents didn’t pay for her to take private lessons, so she had to find free karate and ballet classes at community centers. Now she says she’s happy to give back.
