George Takei Reveals Why His Husband Took His Last Name

When it came time to walk down the aisle, George Takei and his husband, Brad Takei, were faced with a puzzling decision many same-sex couples face - which last name to choose?
The "Star Trek" star explained how husband Brad took Takei as his last name and left his birth name, Altman, behind.
"I argued with him on that," George told Access Hollywood Live's Billy Bush and Kit Hoover. "He wanted to become a Takei."

The actor suggested to his longtime partner that they hyphenate their last names, but Brad told him, "I feel Takei."
When George and Brad were legally allowed to marry in California five years ago, after being together for 26 years, Brad also legally changed his name.

George might be 76, but that hasn't stopped him from being at the forefront of the Twitter Age, and he hopes to help other older people stay current with his new AARP YouTube show, "Takei's Take."
"I do my take on social media and technology," he said of the YouTube series, explaining that many of his original "Star Trek" fans are now AARP members.
